Scale ranges from QGIS

Groundwork reads Scale Dependent Visibility from a layer’s Rendering properties in QGIS. If you zoom out past the layer’s minimum scale, or in past its maximum, the layer is not on the map. Its name is grey, with “Zoom in to see this layer” or “Zoom out to see this layer” below it, and the add button is greyed out. Its features stay in the feature list.

For example, a property boundaries layer with a minimum of 1:10,000 starts to draw when you zoom in past 1:10,000.

Groundwork reads the setting only from a QGIS project file. A map connected to QGIS Server, and a folder published with no project, draw every layer at every scale.

How to try it

  1. In QGIS, open a layer’s properties.
  2. Open Rendering.
  3. Tick Scale Dependent Visibility.
  4. Set a minimum scale.
  5. Save the project, and publish it.
  6. Open the map, and zoom out past that scale.
